I heard people saying they wanted to “opt out” because they didn’t like who was in office—and I couldn’t stop thinking about how many people unknowingly hand over their power when the world feels unstable.

So today is Presence Day: the day you decide to be present, to show up for yourself, and to keep building your best life on purpose.

This Substack post is the implementation guide—the “wealth nuggets” for action takers. Save it. Screenshot it. Use it.

Because presence is powerful, but presence + action is wealth.

1) The Presence Day Rule (the boundary that builds your life)

Here’s the rule that will change your energy fast:

If it drains you and doesn’t build you, it doesn’t get daily access.

Read that again.

• Not everything deserves your attention just because it’s loud.

• Not everyone deserves your emotional labor just because they request it.

• Not every conversation deserves your participation just because it’s trending.

Presence is stewardship. You’re protecting the asset called you.

Action:

Write down one thing you’ve been giving “daily access” to that’s draining you (a habit, a person, a topic, a pattern).

Now choose a boundary:

• limit it to 15 minutes

• move it to one day a week

• mute/unfollow

• say no

• or pause it for 30 days

Presence Day is how you stop bleeding time.

2) The 20-Minute Wealth Block (the smallest habit with the biggest payoff)

If you’ve been waiting for “more time,” this is for you.

Do this every day:

10 minutes BUILD

Pick one:

• write 150–300 words

• outline your next offer

• plan content for tomorrow

• edit one page

• map a simple funnel

• create one asset (post, script, caption, outline)

10 minutes SELL

Pick one:

• pitch one podcast

• DM one potential collaborator

• follow up with one lead

• post one value-based piece of content

• send one email to your list

• invite one person to your community

You do not need a 3-hour block. You need consistency.

This is how people quietly stack momentum—and then one day the world calls it “overnight success.”

Presence Day Wealth Truth:

• If you only build and never sell, you stay hidden.

• If you only sell and never build, you burn out.

The 20-minute block keeps you balanced.

3) The 3-Sentence Boundary Script (for people-pleasers and over-explainers)

If you tend to over-talk, over-justify, or over-give… use this.

1. “That doesn’t work for me.”

2. “Here’s what I can do.”

3. “If that doesn’t fit, I understand.”

That’s it.

No essay. No defense. No guilt.

Example (business):

“That timeline doesn’t work for me. I can start on March 1st and deliver by April 1st. If that doesn’t fit, I understand.”

Example (personal):

“That doesn’t work for me. I can do 30 minutes on Saturday. If that doesn’t fit, I understand.”

Your future requires boundaries. Not because you’re mean—but because you’re serious.

4) The Anti-Spiral Protocol (5 minutes)

This is for the day your nervous system is loud.

When you feel yourself spiraling, do this in order:

1. Drink water

2. Stand up and walk for 60 seconds

3. Breathe in for 4, out for 6 (three times)

4. Write one sentence:

5. “My next right step is ______.”

6. Do that step for 2 minutes (set a timer)

The goal isn’t to fix your whole life in five minutes. The goal is to interrupt the shutdown and return to agency.

Spirals shrink when your body moves and your mind gets one clear direction.

5) The Presence Scorecard (daily self-leadership tracking)

If you want consistency, measure something simple.

Every night, answer these three yes/no questions:

1. Did I protect my focus today?

2. Did I take one aligned action today?

3. Did I honor one boundary today?

If you can say yes to two out of three, you’re winning.

If you can say yes to all three for seven days straight, your confidence will return—and your results will follow.

Presence creates evidence. Evidence creates belief.

6) “Presence Day” isn’t a mood. It’s a lifestyle.

Let me say this plainly:

• You don’t need the world to calm down for you to show up.

• You need a decision you’re willing to repeat.

Your purpose requires your participation.

• Not your perfection.

• Not your performance.

Your participation.

And if today felt heavy, you don’t have to do everything; just do one thing on purpose.

First of all, let me express my immense gratitude for this unique gripe, lol. Yes, this area of my life is as eventful as the rest, yet it aligns perfectly with my purpose. As I joke, for the most part, isn’t this the way life typically works?

You become thrilled by an idea, concept, or vision, dreaming of what could be. You ponder the necessities—what it will take and your goals. You consider the resources and people you'll need. Naturally, financial concerns are at the forefront, from investment requirements to potential earnings. The excitement mounts as you think about all the possibilities.

However, reality soon sets in, a phase we both love and dread. It brings uncertainty, fears, mistakes, victories, and the highs and lows. At times, it feels like a mix of blessings and curses. Yet, being in the rewarding position I find myself in, with a seasoned industry mentor, adds a unique element to the journey. Our session yesterday sparked the idea for this joke video and blog post.

The truth is, my mentor’s challenges are invaluable. It's hard not to feel the pressure when you're the novice paired with an industry veteran of nearly 30 years to your one plus. But this is a blessing!

How incredible is it to receive laser focused training from an expert? For some, this might be overwhelming or anxiety-inducing. However, similar to my experience last year in a masterclass with a multi-Emmy award-winning film veteran, I am privileged to receive laser focused training that saves me six figures and years of angst, education, and FRUSTRATION.

It’s the privilege of someone standing with you, allowing you to hold the reigns, but occasionally whispering in your ear, “Before you do that, do you have….? Have you considered…?” It’s like the parent taking off your bike’s training wheels and saying, “I know you can do this. Don’t be scared. Just do it the way you’ve been practicing and you will be fine.” Unbeknownst to you, they hide within a bird’s eye view, and ready to run to offer assistance if you fall or get stuck.

And that’s leadership, my friends. A good leader knows how to lead from the bottom up and top down. A good leader also knows how to be the student, while a good teacher knows how to teach but also that a time will come where they also will learn for the student. And they prepare for the day when their student will become the teacher, a true day of accomplishment and pride.

I am profoundly thankful for this opportunity, the support, and the encouragement, knowing I am capable of steering this ship. My "one day" is now a reality. I've prayed, dreamed, and planned for this moment. The response has been deafening and I’m thankful for all the projects that are in production and those that are to come.

Let’s face it: being BIPOC in any industry comes with its set of challenges. For starters, no industry is created by, for, nor led by people of color. It is what it is. Despite the disheartening struggles highlighted by Hollywood actress Taraji Henson regarding fair pay and Hollywood actress/writer/producer Issa Rae condemnation of Hollywood’s disregard for black media, it’s clear why she, like many others, is choosing the independent route. My perspective is:

What a time to be alive!

As a newer executive film producer in the indie scene, these perspectives confirm my decision to establish my independent production house in late 2022. Reflecting on my journey from a solo entrepreneur to now, my sense of gratitude continues to grow. 

Initially, the weight of knowing that someone relies on my success to support their family was daunting. Over time, I've come to appreciate the tremendous responsibility of increasing others' prosperity simply by pursuing my passion and utilizing my talents. That's the essence of being an entrepreneur and creative.

My journey began with a desire to share my story to inspire others to overcome challenges and thrive rather than merely survive. Any form of abuse can lead individuals down a dark path where life loses its meaning. For those who choose not to end their lives, many become what I term the "walking dead" – merely existing with no real sense of thriving, peace, happiness, or joy. That's not living.

Launching my first book in 2016 unexpectedly led me to own a publishing company, film production company, and become a nonprofit executive and a six-figure grant writer. Through this journey, I discovered a universal truth applicable to independent filmmakers and creatives: we possess the power to create our own wealth.

The cliché "create the world you want to see" resonates profoundly in the realms of media, film, literature, and every other industry. BIPOC individuals have an incredible opportunity to bring about transformation and make a significant impact on communities that are often ignored and misrepresented. Film, much like literature, excites me because independents can say, "screw you and your whitewashing. I will bring authenticity and truth to the audiences that desire it, not the version you impose." Today's technology and resources make it almost criminal not to do so.

Success is no longer solely in the hands of gatekeepers and old boys' clubs. If they deny you what you deserve, create your own gate or explore alternative paths. While it may seem impossible, consider that in 2015, Tyler Perry acquired 330 acres of Fort McPherson to establish Tyler Perry Studios. As Perry expressed to CBS This Morning, "think about the poetic justice in that... The Confederate Army fought to keep Negroes enslaved on this very ground, and now this ground is owned by me.1”

What an exciting time to be alive! Although I would love to delve deeper into this discussion today, duty calls me back to the set.
